The “2019 Naval Academy and Livorno International sailing week” will be held from 23 rd of April to 1st of May as presented during a press conference aboard the Italian Ship Vespucci moored in Trieste.  Pierpaolo Ribuffo,  Superintendent of the Academy and Dr. Andrea Mazzoni, the Leghorn sailing clubs’ representative, revealed the races and events planned for the “2019 International Sailing Week – Naval Academy and City of Livorno.” The competition will be divided into 12 different racing classes (16 Trident, Optimist, Laser bugs, Laser, 2.4 Mr, Hansa 303 and Martin 16, J24, ORC/IRC, Vintage sails, Latin sails and tehno 293 ). The route of the offshore sailing regatta, RAN ( The Naval Academy Regatta ) is over 600 miles between the islands of the Tyrrhenian Sea and starts off from Livorno harbor, proceeds toward a buoy  in front of Porto Cervo, another buoy  located in front of the Royal Yacht Club Canottieri Savoia in the Gulf of Naples and finishes in Livorno . Also this year, the Naval Academy, in collaboration with Circolo Velico Antignano and Lega Italiana Vela (LIV), will organize the “Naval Academies Regatta”, an International Regatta involving several foreign naval academies, by the format involving the at-sea crew rotation.  The race course will be in front of the famous Terrazza Mascagni.

There is also an initiative to promote the sea with an art contest called “The Sea and Sails,” organized in collaboration with the newspaper “Il Tirreno.” Reserved for primary and Secondary Level schools, the works selected will be exhibited in the “Cadet’s Gallery” at the Naval Academy. The 2019 Edition of the “City of Livorno Naval Academy and International Sailing Week” will address solidarity in social issues by partnering with Unicef and the Fondazione Francesca Rava-NPH Italy Onlus.
