The “2018 Naval Academy and Livorno International Sailing Week” was presented during a press conference.  It is scheduled from April 20th to May 1st 2018.

From the hall of the prestigious “Palazzo allievi” at the Naval Academy, the Mayor of Livorno ing. Filippo Nogarin, Admiral Pierpaolo Ribuffo, Superintendent of the Academy, and Dr. Andrea Mazzoni, representative of the city’s sailing clubs, described the schedule of regattas and associated events.

The “Naval Academy and Livorno International Sailing Week”, now in its second edition, is an event that includes competitions for 15 different racing classes (IRC / ORC, Trident 16, Optimist, Laser Bug, L’Equipe , Windsurfer, IOM, Marblehead, 2.4 Mr, Martin 16, J24, Star, Contender, J70 and Vele d’Epoca).

One thousand crew members, 600 boats, and 9 sailing clubs are expected to attend.

This year the “Naval Academies Regatta” is confirmed, an international regatta involving foreign naval academies from 23 countries, organized in collaboration with the Circolo Velico Antignano and the Lega Italiana Vela (LIV), renewing last year’s format that saw the sea-change of the crews.  The race course will be near the Terrazza Mascagni in Livorno.

Among the new events introduced this year are the first stage of the Kinder Optimist Trophy and the “Regatta dell’Accademia Navale”, a 604 nautical mile offshore race to be covered in five days.

The second edition of the event will also feature numerous initiatives to promote the sea, including the artistic contest “Il mare e le Vele”, organized in collaboration with the newspaper “Il Tirreno”, and will include important charitable initiatives in collaboration with Fondazione Francesca Rava-NPH Italia Onlus and Unicef.
